Planting the Seeds of Spring – Rituals for the Seasonal Threshold

There is a moment each year when winter loosens its grip, but spring has not yet fully arrived. A season of thresholds. Of listening. Of quiet beginnings beneath the surface.

This new moon, lunar New Year and eclipse arrive in that in-between time – a pause in the turning of the year, where darkness is not an ending, but a womb.

🌑 The New Moon: A Dark Beginning

The new moon is the unseen moon. It moves through the sky without being visible, reminding us that not all beginnings are meant to be witnessed.

Seeds germinate in darkness. Roots reach downward before anything reaches up. Our intentions often form quietly, before they are spoken aloud.

In this dark moon, we are invited to rest, to listen, to plant something gentle within ourselves – no expectation to bloom just yet.

🌒 The Eclipse: A Threshold of Revelation

An eclipse is a meeting of light and shadow. For a brief moment, something familiar is obscured, and in that obscurity, new understanding can arise.

Eclipses are thresholds – moments of pause in the rhythm of light, where we are invited to release what no longer serves, and sense what is quietly asking to emerge.

They remind us that transformation often begins in shadow, in the places we do not usually look.

🌱 From Darkness to Emergence

As we move toward the Spring Equinox, the land begins its slow unfurling. Light stretches into the evening – so very welcome here on Skye. Snowdrops rise. Birds gather twigs. Beneath the soil, more life stirs.

Spring does not arrive in a rush. It arrives through whispers: a crocus in the grass, a lamb in the field, a softening of the air.

The new moon asks us to plant inner seeds now – so that when spring fully arrives, our growth is rooted, conscious, and aligned with the rhythms of the land.

🌕 Lunar Cycles and New Year Renewal

Across cultures, the new moon marks new beginnings. Lunar New Year, celebrated in many parts of the world, arrives with the promise of fresh starts, renewal, and alignment with the cycles of the moon.

Like the seeds germinating in the darkness of this new moon, the celebrations invite reflection, intention, and conscious planting of what we wish to grow in the coming season.

Whether lighting candles, writing intentions, or stepping into nature, we honour the invisible rhythms of life—acknowledging that every ending is also a beginning, every shadow a space for growth.

🌿 Ritual to Mark Transitions

Ritual gives shape to invisible transitions. It is how we mark thresholds, honour cycles, and remember that we belong to something larger.

A simple new moon ritual might be:

  • Lighting a candle and inviting in a new intention
  • Writing down what you are ready to release and what you’d like to grow
  • Walking slowly or sitting in nature and noticing the first signs of spring
  • Moving your body with curiosity, sensing what is waking within you.

These gestures are small, but they carry meaning.

✨ A Spring Ritual Gathering

This month, I’m offering a Spring Ritual Gathering / Retreat—a gentle space to step across this seasonal threshold in community.

Through movement, reflection, and simple ceremony, we’ll honour the turning of the year and plant intentions that can grow alongside the land.

If you feel called to mark this transition with nature, ritual, and presence, you are warmly invited.
